Itunes

Itunes is a great all in one stop for your audio/video needs. You can play and copy cd’s, listen and purchase music, and/or watch podcasts. You can even buy TV shows that you may have missed and watch them on your computer. For your classroom, I recommend the podcasts function. There will be a podcast detailing more on how to use itunes in your classroom but for now, if you do a search in the directory you have many choices of podcasts that you can show your students. Google Documents

This is similar to Google Calendar in that it is web based and you can allow others to access the documents that you type. The suite of applications includes a document creator (similar to word), a slideshow creator (similar to Powerpoint), and a spreadsheet creator (similar to Excel). Once created anyone with Internet access can view what you have created (once you allow them to). Give it a try at:

Literacy Center

Talk about one site that has it all! This website is divided into subject area and very well organized. The areas covered are: colors, letters, numbers, phonemes, shapes, writing and words. Each play and learn game is differentiated for children at their different levels of learning. This site is a great tool to use with ESL and second language learners because it provides instruction in English, as well as Spanish, German, and French! The parent and teachers portion outlines the reasoning behind each activity and the objective that each game will help your students to meet!

Google Calendar

Would you like to manage and coordinate your plans and/or dates with other teachers?  This application may be the one for you.  It’s called Google Calendar and as long as you or someone else has access to a computer with internet access, you can view your calendar.  You can color code events to help keep everything separate and only allow  individuals you choose to see individual calendars.  Give it a try.

Ms. Cox’s PreKinders

This website is a perfect resource for a brand new early childhood teacher or one who has been teaching for years! Karen Cox, the creator of PreKinders has provided an extensive list of lesson plan ideas, forms, and websites to use in your classroom. Her website is well organized by subject area. One of my favorite features is the links she provides to other teacher created websites! We can all learn so much from one another!

StoryNory

I just found out about this today, and Alex will probably beat me for posting this but I give her credit for showing it to me :-p StoryNory is a podcast in which the author reads a story. Currently there are 28 stories to choose from. Most of the stories seem to be lesser known but this is good start if you are looking for a way to use a podcast in your classroom.

Between the Lions

This PBS Kids production focuses on pre-reading skills varying from upper and lowercase letter recognition to initial consonant sounds. The website focus on these skills through educational games, video streaming (which is broken into small segments allowing specific segments to be shown to reinforce skills being worked on in the classroom), video and audio downloads that are ready to download to your computer or MP3 player, and online stories that you can make full screen with a simple double click on the story portion of the page. The page is easy to navigate for even the little Tykes!  Visit the site and see what you think!
